At the Club we organise different activities every week including music, chair-based exercise, arts and crafts, board games, dancing and therapy animal visits to name a few. Our clients also enjoy interacting with each other during our hot topic discussions over coffee and lunch. We also have visiting musicians that come and play to us live and blast from the past events where we invite guests from local organisations that our clients used to be involved with, whether it’s local professional footballers, classic cars  our clients used to own, or career workers such as police workers. This is always a big hit with everyone! We arrange regular intergenerational activities with the local preschool and this year we will be organising several day trips to places of interest including a boat trip and local cafes and parks. We often have visiting therapy vets visit. All of our support workers are dementia friends with the Alzheimer’s Society initiative and are the most compassionate and patient people we can find. They have also been fully vaccinated and we continue to follow covid safety protocol. We run monthly Carers Support Forums too, free of charge.

Caring Comes 1st have recently opened 'Memory Lane', a new purpose-build dementia support service in Kingswood. 

Based in Kingswood, they host physical and mentally stimulating activities and invite those living with dementia to their day centre to connect with others living in the community and share a sense of belonging.  They take an arts-based approach to creating meaningful activities for service users. Here is a list of some of the confidence-building activities that they will be hosting at Memory Lane:

New Beginnings is a day care service for those living in the community with support needs. We are open Tuesdays – Fridays, 9am–3pm, and are based at the Withywood Centre in south Bristol.

Our days are full of activities such as arts and crafts, music, gardening, and cooking. Our members have a two-course lunch in the on-site café, and there are refreshments throughout the day.

Transport can be provided for a limited number of people who could not otherwise travel to the centre.

Many places are funded by Adult Social Care packages of care and some people fund their own places privately.

Alzheimer's Society offers a specialist service for younger people with dementia (under 70 years) living in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath & North East Somerset.

The Limes provides care and support during the day (8am - 6pm Monday to Friday) in a safe and comfortable environment. The care provided will be specific to the individual's assessed needs and requirements. This will include:

• An opportunity to meet and mix with others
• Stimulation through social contact and meaningful activities
• An opportunity to pursue personal hobbies and social activities either at The Limes or in the community
• Refreshments and meals
• Support with personal care

An approved carer shares their home and family life with a vulnerable person; this could be someone with learning difficulties, dementia, mental health issues or with another disability.

Shared Lives  carers offer the following support:

• Live-in support - within a Shared Lives carer's home, long or short term.
• Short Breaks - ie care and support provided on a temporary basis within the carer's home. This may be day care and/or overnight stays.
• Emergency Placements - where the person needing care may have been bereaved, suffered abuse, or experienced other domestic breakdown.
• Support during the day - from the Shared Lives carer's home

Carers come from a range of backgrounds and receive support and guidance from a Shared Lives Officer. Carers will provide care, support and accommodation  within their own home.

Tyndale Circle Day Centre

A weekly day centre for those with memory loss who are not in full-time residential care. We meet every Thursday from 10.00am to 2.30pm.

It is a day of stimulating activity in a safe, supportive environment full of fun. Activities include, singing, armchair exercises, table skittles, golf putting, quizzes, beetle and occasional arts & craft work. A hot, two course lunch as well as refreshments through the day are provided and the fee is £80 per month.
